How This Started

Smiling woman with long dark hair and stylish glasses.

Nicolina Hunt

Founder

WhoAreTheyReally.com was created in response to a very real heartbreak. It began when its founder discovered, only after the fact, that someone they had been dating had hidden significant parts of their life — including a criminal record that was never disclosed. Feeling blindsided and vulnerable, they wished there had been a way to see the truth sooner instead of piecing everything together later.

While studying cybersecurity at Berkeley from 2003 to 2024, the founder discovered open‑source intelligence (OSINT) and realized it could be used to protect people in everyday life, not just in technical or security roles. As they learned to use public information to verify stories, uncover missing details (including criminal history where it’s publicly available), and spot red flags, friends and family began quietly asking for help understanding who they were really dating.

What started as one person trying to make sense of painful experiences grew into a way to help others feel safer, less alone, and more in control when something didn’t add up. That’s how WhoAreTheyReally.com was born: a discreet, OSINT‑driven service dedicated to bringing more truth, clarity, and emotional safety into modern dating.

Founder's Bio

Nicolina Hunt is the founder of Hunt Global Services and WhoAreTheyReally.com, based in Orange County, California. She focuses on dating investigations, discreet background intelligence, and professional process serving (License PS‑6752), helping clients confirm who they’re really dealing with—both online and in real life. She studied cybersecurity at UC Berkeley from 2023–2024, strengthening her technical foundation and investigative skill set.

Through Hunt Global Services, Nicolina also provides strategic business support and consulting to organizations navigating complex, fast‑changing markets. For over a decade, she has built and scaled businesses using the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS), giving her a practical, execution‑driven lens on structure, accountability, and growth. Drawing on her background in cybersecurity, OSINT (open‑source intelligence), surveillance, and compliance‑focused roles, she brings a methodical, detail‑driven approach to problems that range from verifying online identities and uncovering red flags to improving operational processes and decision‑making.
Known for her discretion, empathy, and straightforward communication, Nicolina supports clients across the U.S. and internationally who want clear facts before making high‑stakes personal or business decisions. She continues to sharpen her craft through ongoing investigative and OSINT training, using technology and open‑source data ethically to keep individuals, families, and businesses safer in a digital world.

“Online dating as a gay man can be confusing. I met someone who seemed genuine, but small inconsistencies made me uneasy, so I had his background checked and found out he was using multiple fake identities. It hurt, but it stopped me from getting pulled into something dishonest. The process was quiet, respectful, and drama‑free — just clear answers — and it reminded me that verifying people isn’t paranoia; it’s self‑respect, especially for anyone dating online in the LGBTQ+ community.”
